Things to Make and Mend

Sigh, this one was a disaster. I was in the mood, for something non-serious, a light read, something to while the sunny hours by, and the dark clouds off. Ruth Thomas' Things to Make and Mend seemed just about right for that - looked promising, and I thought it would fit the bill. It is chick flick alright. But really, apart from expanding my vocabulary with the word haberdashery, I scarce remember anything about the book.

Supposedly Things to Make and Mend is about two best friends - Sally and Rowena - tragically separated by treachery in teenagehood (all sarcasm intended), and their eventual reunion in middle age. Ah, by the time we unravel the threads of their breakup, it is almost near the end of the book. And by then, I was just about close to flinging it against the wall, haberdashery or not!

Verdict: Can't say I didn't warn you!
